Building a Warmer Community for People Living with Dementia
Support dementia communities through arts activities, brain-health education, and fundraising.
I organized intergenerational arts and crafts sessions, such as tissue flower making and origami, that brought older adults and younger people together while providing cognitive stimulation. I also created and led "Brain Health Bingo," a game built around brain-health terms, explaining each concept during play so participants could learn while having fun. This project was funded by the George H.P. Dwight 1945 Fund from Groton School.
Memory Friends is a Korean dementia awareness program run by the Seoul Metropolitan Dementia Center. Memory Friends learn how to understand and help people with dementia and their families, and Memory Friend Leaders are certified to train others. As a Memory Friends Leader, I completed five hours of training in dementia awareness and stigma reduction, and I have used that knowledge to educate my friends and family about dementia.
I also created EdelWISE notebooks featuring messages from older adults and raised approximately $1,200 through crowdfunding to support Alzheimer's research and awareness.
